June's Update

The last few weeks have taught me a lot about the work of the church in the times we find ourselves in today. Part of the work of the church is to do justice. On May 15 and 16, I attended the In Search for Biblical Justice Conference. Dr. Michael Barram led us in a deep discussion about myths and how they play a role in creating systems of injustice. We also worshipped together and were inspired by the preaching of The Reverend Danielle Bridgeforth, who broke down the brave ask of the daughters of Zelophehad from Numbers 27 and showed us how we all can advocate for justice.
I also spent a couple of days in Tampa, Florida, learning more about CBF’s Dawnings initiative. Dawnings calls us to listen carefully to God as we explore our personal story, the church’s story, our community's story, and God's story. Then, Dawnings invites us to explore two questions: What is God calling us to do right now, and what is God calling us to be right now? If you would like more information about Dawnings, let’s have a conversation!
We had a great luncheon with Paul Baxley this week, and I hope you will read more about that experience below. Lunches like the one we had on Monday remind me of the hope, connection, and belonging that I always feel with CBF. Those feelings inspire me to work with hope and to create more connections while striving to make everyone feel that they belong.
This brings me to a blog post I wrote this week. Summer has made me nostalgic about summer trips from the past. In it, I share about an important summer trip from my youth and the way it changed my life: A Tap on the Shoulder.
CBF’s General Assembly in Jacksonville is only two weeks away! There will be more to learn about the work of the church and plenty of stories to share. Keep up the good and faithful work!
