Once again, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s General Assembly was moving, meaningful and full of fellowship. The theme of the Bold Type came through in every aspect of the gathering. I am still processing the many powerful sermons and wise words from the many well-known and gifted speakers. I continue to be moved by moments of amazing worship, such as the opening late-night worship led by CBF’s Pan-African Koinonia and the integration of diversity through all the worship services. I left our host city of Jacksonville, Florida, feeling the theme and ready to live into the boldness we find in Christ.

I am grateful for the way Mid-Atlantic CBF showed up at the assembly. Many from the Mid-Atlantic came early for governing board and council meetings. We are well represented in the governing bodies of CBF! Five people from our region led Learning Labs and were able to share their passions, gifts and insight with the rest of the fellowship. Others were seen leading worship and volunteering throughout the assembly. We even filled tables at the different breakfasts, lunches and dinners sponsored by CBF Advocacy, The Emmanuel McCall Racial Justice Initiative, Baptist Women in Ministry, CBF’s Familia and the Baptist Joint Committee.
To begin the Assembly, Mid-Atlantic CBF joined with our friends the Baptist Fellowship of the Northeast (BFN) for our regional gathering. We then joined CBF of Virginia for a meal. Our regional gatherings always stand out for me. There is something about the uniqueness of our two regions that finds strength in each other. Last year we sat in a circle for our regional meeting so we could see each other as we learned to know each other. This year the circle was even bigger and the bond even stronger! I am grateful for the partnership we hold with BFN. The two smaller regions from up north are making a greater impact for the entire fellowship. Yes, indeed, we are Better Together!
